6 Trans Allies Who Eviscerated 'Bathroom Bills'

In recent weeks, trans people faced a spike in transphobia originating from discriminatory legislation, but several allies stepped up and denounced 'bathroom bills' in amazing ways.

Thankfully, Ted Cruz and his transphobic rhetoric are being drowned out by trans allies with very loud and sometimes hilarious voices. During challenging times, it's nice to focus on those who choose to stand on the right side of history. Here's are some of amazing responses from trans allies regarding the totally outrageous 'bathroom bills' fiasco.

Haley Power

She's a mom from a Republican family who confessed on Facebook that she's used a public restroom while a trans woman was simultaneously using the facilities. *gasp*

The Liberal Redneck

"The kids, the kids, the kids ... meanwhile these are the same mother f*ckers who put Mountain Dew in sippy cups and beat a six year old with a wire hanger for standing in front of a TV during Dr. Oz," says the Liberal Redneck.

A very southern man took to YouTube to express his relatively progressive thoughts about people claiming trans folks using the restroom that aligns with their gender could potentially lead to sexual assault.

Nailed. It.

Target

Target

The beloved retail chain Target came forward and stated trans people can use whatever restroom they choose in their stores. They continue to maintain this stance even after 700,000 people signed a petition to boycott them for supporting transgender people.

The Daily Show

The Daily Show took a staunch, smart and hilarious stand against anti-transgender discrimination.

The eight-minute segment, "The Trans Panic Epidemic," examined the anti-trans political climate in the United States through interviews with numerous trans activists and one transphobic politician. It was educational and on point.

Jesse George

This southern, cis, straight dad took a lesson from his daughter and decided to wear a "I'll Go With You" button while working in North Carolina. He has promised to accompany folks who need an ally in the restroom publicly.

The Cancelations

Sometimes, people ignore a problem unless it immediately affects them, which is why it's important when people cancel their concerts, film projects and conventions in states with hateful anti-LGBT laws. It's hard to ignore trans issues when your favorite musical act cancels or when the state you govern is losing money because of your selfish executive order. Just a few allies to take this type of action are Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Cirque du Soleil, Ringo Starr, Cyndi Lauper, Tracy Morgan, Sharon Stone and Lions Gate Productions.
