Heated Rivalry fans are going to be yearning for a second season for a little while longer!
After being teased and edged in the months since the season one finale aired, fans who have logged more than 10 million views per episode of the first season are finally getting an update about when season two is set to premiere.
Creator Jacob Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady appeared on CBS Mornings on Thursday to chat with Gayle King about the plans for the follow-up season to the hit show. As a reminder, Heated Rivalry follows two closeted hockey players who spend years meeting for secret trysts before falling in love.
“There will be more Heated Rivalry on your TVs, like, truly, as soon as humanly possible,” Tierney promised fans, announcing that season two will begin production in August, but the show won’t be released until April 2027.
Next spring can’t come soon enough for fans who have been rewatching the show over and over again since it premiered, teasingly calling it “Reheated Rivalry” on social media.
Brady encouraged fans to “enjoy the yearn” as they wait for the highly anticipated second season, which is set to follow the plot of The Long Game, the sequel to the queer romance novel by Rachel Reid that the first season was based on.
Fans were hoping to get more episodes of the popular love story between Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) a lot sooner, but they won’t be getting more episodes of the show until next year, and Reid also recently announced that the upcoming sequel novel about the beloved characters won’t be released until June 1, 2027.
This just means 2027 is going to be a great year for the Heated Rivalry fandom!
