And we are officially getting the first lesbian superhero series!!

The CW has ordered Batwoman to series, putting to rest any fears we may have had that the pilot would be buried alongside all the TV gays.

Ruby Rose made her debut as Gotham’s Kate Kane in the Arrow-verse crossover event last year, “Elseworlds,” where she wasted no time getting her flirt on with fellow hero Kara Danvers.

The CW ordered the pilot not long after.

While not much is known about the series still, Deadline describes it as follows:

“In the CW’s drama based on the DC characters, she’s armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

The series will be under the Greg Berlanti banner, like all the other CW superhero shows, and will be run by Caroline Dries.

Rachel Skarsten will play the main nemesis to Rose’s Batwoman, the Joker to her Batman. Skarsten previously starred in the very queer, very Canadian supernatural series Lost Girl, and played Black Canary’s daughter in the WB’s short-lived Birds of Prey series.

A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, though Ruby Rose briefly suggested it would come out this fall before retracting her statement.

Rachel Kiley is presumably a writer and definitely not a terminator. She can usually be found crying over queerbaiting in the Pitch Perfect franchise or on Twitter, if not both.
