Witches, are you with me? Charmed is introducing an awesome new character to The CW!

If you're familiar with the franchise, you know it "follows the lives of three sisters who, after the tragic death of their mother, discover they are powerful witches."

Mareya Salazar is set to play the recurring role of Joséfina, the Charmed Ones' second cousin who is described as "a strong, opinionated young woman who shows up on their doorstep with surprises and secrets...and a mission of her own."

The news broke yesterday on the Trans Day of Visibility. It's unclear if Joséfina is cisgender or transgender in the story, or if her gender identity will be reflected in the plot.

This is Salazar's first television role, and what a potentially groundbreaking one it is. She is the second transgender actor cast on the series after JJ Hawkins was brought in at the beginning of season three. According to Out, Hawkins plays Kevin, "a transgender college student who provides some much-needed inspiration to one of the Charmed Ones before she faces off against a difficult foe."

The next episode of Charmed premieres April 11 on The CW!
