American Idol's Contestant Crystal Bowersox Releases "Coming Out for Christmas" Single

Crystal Bowersox, runner-up on the ninth season of American Idol, has released a holiday single called "Coming Out For Christmas." She hopes her song will inspire LGBTQ youth to find the strength to come out to family and friends this holiday season.

Former American Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox released a Christmas-themed single about coming out, aptly titled "Coming Out For Christmas," reports AfterEllen.

Coming home for Christmas can be tough if you haven't also come out to family or friends, which is why Bowersox's song, co-written with Maia Sharp, is meant to inspire LGBTQ youth to feel empowered. Bowersox says of her single:

“The holidays are here, and it pains me to think that anyone would be left alone or be forbidden to be with their family over something as silly as their sexual orientation. I hope it will serve as a holiday anthem for people who may finally have the courage to live their life as their true authentic self, proudly and unapologetically, and that their friends and family will love and accept them with loving open arms. May we all celebrate this holiday season together, celebrate equality, and give thanks for the true spirit of Christmas- with our one human family.”

Some of the proceeds from each sale of "Coming Out For Christmas" will benefit The Trevor Project, according to On Top. Bowersox's heartwarming single can be purchased in the iTunes store or at New York Rock Exchange.
