WATCH: U.S. Trailer for 'Blue Is The Warmest Color' is Remarkably Tame Despite NC-17 Rating

Sundance Selects just released the U.S. trailer for critically acclaimed lesbian coming-of-age drama Blue Is The Warmest Color. The French film earned the coveted Palm d'Or award at Cannes this year, and has courted controversy because of its lengthy and graphic lesbian sex scene and its raw emotionality. That combination earned the film an NC-17 rating for its U.S. release.

The film's stars have spoken out about the sometimes hellish experience of working with the director, but star Léa Seydoux told SheWired that the two actors are close friends these days. Check out SheWired's exclusive interview with Seydoux here

But all the controversy is brushed aside in the U.S. version of the trailer, which resists including any subtitles in favor of longing looks and tender musical accompaniment. That might be an intentional move on the production company's part, hoping to distance the film from the controversy and make the intimate, artistic, and hard-to-watch film more palatable for mainstream American audiences.

Take a look at the trailer below and see what you think.
