We might have a new favorite movie coming out next year, according to Variety. Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart are currently in talks to star in a new film about infamous ax murderess Lizzie Borden, with Chloe starring as Lizzie and Kristen playing Bridget Sullivan, Lizzie's live-in maid who testified at Lizzie's trial.
This isn't the first time Chloe has been tapped to play Ms. Borden. She was set to star as the young woman accused of killing her father and stepmother with an ax in 1892 in an HBO miniseries starring Tom Hanks, but that project never came to be. Lifetime, however, did make a movie and subsequent mini-series in 2014/2015 starring Christina Ricci as Lizzie, so if you want to brush up on your Borden facts in preparation for this film, definitely check those out. And, of course, you can also hum that eerie "Lizzie Borden took an ax / gave her mother 40 whacks" children's rhyme to yourself in the meantime.
This upcoming, currently untitled film will chronicle "the true events that lead up to the infamous double murder," and will be directed by Pieter Van Hees with a script by Bryce Kass. Lizzie is oft rumored to have been having an affair with her maid Bridget, which could add an entirely new dimension, should the filmmakers opt to explore that piece of the mystery. Also, it would mean the 6th or 7th time Sevigny has played queer.
Could the film find its way into theaters by next Halloween? We certainly hope so, but until then we can keep up with Chloe on American Horror Story: Hotel and catch Kristen in the several upcoming projects including the film Equals and an untitled Woody Allen film.
