Track how the story of marriage equality came to be in one short video.

A media startup called Vox Media put together a fun, multi-graphic video detailing the historic events of marriage equality, from evolution to revolution.

The timeline, created by Vox's Joe Posner, compiles news clips that trace the path of progress, beginning with the first laws passed in the northeastern U.S. that granted same-sex couples civil unions. Using short soundbites, the video reveals how full marriage equality spread to all 50 states, ending with Friday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Vox calls itself a general interest news site for the 21st century, with a simple mission: explain the news. The video, which is also posted on Vox’s Facebook page, has been viewed more than 1.7 million times, shared more than 31,000 times and received more than 15,000 likes.
