The L Word star and LGBT ally and activist Cybill Shepherd is returning to television in her first series “regular” role since her sitcom Cybill, according to Deadline.
A Golden Globe winner for her role on Moonlighting in the 80s, Shepherd is slated to play Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character Riley’s mother on the Lifetime series The Client List, based on the 2010 Lifetime movie of the same name, about a woman who, in the wake of her husband leaving her, gets into the business of running a massage parlor.
Shepherd and Hewitt, who costarred in The Client List film, are reprising their roles for the series, albeit with different character names.
While Shepherd has long been an ally to the LGBT community – her daughter and L Word costar Clementine Ford is out – Shepherd endeared herself to lesbian fans playing Bette’s (Jennifer Beals) boss Phyllis Kroll, a married woman with kids who comes out late in life and engages in relationships with both Leisha Hailey’s Alice and Jane Lynch’s Joyce Wishnia.
A veteran of television and film, Shepherd began turning heads in the 70s with roles in modern classics including Last Picture Show and Taxi Driver.
