“What an amazing day for our country,” Ellen said. “President Obama just came out in support of same-sex marriage and I say ‘wow’”
Ellen, who famously married Portia de Rossi in 2008 during the window of about six months when same-sex marriage was legal in California, continued to praise the President.
There have been moments I history when someone had the courage to stand up for what they believe in, and that one action and that one action changes everything,” Ellen said. “And I hope that this is one of those times.”
The studio audience cheered and finally gave a standing ovation as Ellen said, “It takes a brave man to take a stand like this, especially in an election year, so Mr. President, to you, I say ‘thank you very, very, very much.’”
