Amid critique that Ryan Murphy's new sitcom The New Normal too often places lesbians at the butt-end of jokes, the freshman comedy from Glee mastermind will incorporate a lesbian couple in the show's seventh episode, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The New Normal's lesbian duo will be played by The L Word's Leisha Hailey and Entourage's Constance Zimmer. Hailey will play the cheery Victoria, who isn't as bitter as her long-term partner, accountant Tiffany (played by Zimmer), about not being able to have a family, THR reports. The lesbian couple, which won't appear for another five episodes, will play good friends of gay leads Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha.

Co-creator and out lesbian Ali Adler told THR that the show is making an effort to represent the full diversity of modern American families. "We're trying to represent all different kinds of families, parents and friends," Adler told THR. "And certainly that is an area we would explore. We hope to see them soon as an ongoing part of the show."
