Out actress Sarah Paulson is set to join “glamor cat” Jessica Lange and Evan Peters on the upcoming third season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series on FX, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
AHS showrunner Murphy confirmed during a press screening on Thursday night that the third season of AHS would be set in modern day, would jump between time periods and cities, and would revolve around Lange. He also noted that he would be interested in adding a horror romance element to the storyline.
"We do have a great icon, and it's a woman," he told THR, adding that it would be about “female power.”
Details surrounding the characters aren’t hashed out at this time, but Murphy confirmed that he’s interested in signing more of the actors who have appeared in both the first and second seasons of the show.
"I will say that for season three, we are going to have some actors from season one who will return. I like that idea. I know that those actors are interested in that," Murphy said.
During the first season, Paulson played a psychic named Billie, who appeared in only a few episodes. This season, Paulson starred as Lana Winters, a lesbian journalist who was unjustly placed in the Briarcliff asylum, forced to undergo conversion therapy, and was kidnapped and held by a deranged serial killer.
In 2013, Paulson will also appear in the feature film, Twelve Years a Slave, an 1800s period piece about slavery, based on the book by Solomon Northup, starring Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodard, and Paul Giamatti.
