Coronation Street's Lesbian Couple - A Boozy Birthday Bash

Life has been just chugging along smoothly for Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and Sian (Sacha Parkinson), our lovely teenage lesbians on Coronation Street. That is, until Sophie’s 16th birthday party last Friday. Her irrepressible sister Rosie (Emma Collinge) -- Weatherfield’s top model who is straight, but wants to be a lesbian because they are just so cool -- invited the local drag king, and skating waitresses serving trays of vodka shots. Meanwhile, Sophie had invited her teenage choir friends from the church that she and Sian attend. As parties like that often go, the alcohol went down rather quickly, and half an hour later came back up just as quick. 

Of course the whole thing was very funny. Then whoops! The Pastor turned up just as Sophie and Sian shared a kiss. Dropping her birthday gift like it was on fire he turned on his heel and left without a word. I thought he would at least have said, ‘You little devils!’ 

Of course, said Pastor returned the next day, bible in hand. He quoted from St. Paul’s ‘argument against nature from homosexuality (Roman 1)’ saying how, ‘women exchanged natural relations for shameful unnatural ones.' This upset Sian to no end but Sophie was quiet -- too quiet. Is she changing her mind about being a lesbian one wonders?

Sian, on the other hand, who’s becoming quite the feisty young woman, challenged him. ‘ What happened to us all being equal? God got it wrong and he’d be the first to admit it!’

The Pastor assured them the church was not casting them out. That it was all right to have the feelings for one another but they shouldn’t act on them. God throws temptation at all of us, as a test. They have to be strong, and resist, the Pastor told the girls.  

Where will this leave our girls? Their faith is strong -- especially Sophie’s. We’ll just to have to keep tuning in to find out!
