In one of many no-brainer news updates to come out of Fox's winter Television Critics' Assn. panel, the network made legions of fans across the globe break out in song with its announcement Monday that it has given the early Season 2 pickup to Glee.

In addition, the network announced a nationwide casting call to fill three new regular roles for its second season, set to begin in the fall. The search, which is open to amateurs and professionals between the ages of 16-26, will be recorded and used as a promotional tool to fill the down time between after the rookie singing dramedy ends its Season 1 run this summer.

"Anybody and everybody now has a chance to be on a show about talented underdogs," co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter. "No matter who you are -- a Broadway talent or a struggling singing waiter with a dream in the Midwest -- you now have an opportunity to make that dream come true by posting your talent video and showing us what you can do."

The trio of new characters will be chosen from the video audition process and be revealed in Glee's Season 2 premiere.

While there have been hints about a possible lesbian relationship between cheerleaders Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera), and out lesbian Jane Lynch stars as the straight-but-never-PC Sue Sylvester, Glee really could use  an out lesbian character.

Just think of it - a lesbian character to provide Chris Colfer's openly gay Kurt some support as he continues to crush on Finn (Cory Monteith). Maybe she could even take advantage of Kurt's fashion sense and get a mullet and flannel makeover!

Glee returns from hiatus April 13 when we'll be treated to nine more new episodes that include one featuring all Madonna songs as well as one directed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse mastermind Joss Whedon.

So are you gay and between the ages of 16-26? Can you sing? Go for it!
