HIMYM 100 Strong: Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders Suit up!

Monday’s 100th episode of CBS’ How I Met Your Motherwas all about Neil Patrick Harris and the cast’s musical number — and central character Ted getting a step closer to finally meeting the mother of the show’s title, but it was Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders who stole the show in “Girls vs. Suits.”

Monday’s 100th episode of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother was all about Neil Patrick Harris and the cast’s musical number — and central character Ted getting a step closer to finally meeting the mother of the show’s title, but it was Alyson Hannigan who stole the show in “Girls vs. Suits.”

When the quintet’s local bar McLaren’s hires a “hot bartender,” Hannigan’s Lily Erikson begins an episode-long quest to convince her loyal and sweet husband Marshall (Jason Segel) that she’s hot when he consistently refers to Lily as the “hottest woman in the world.”

Hannigan’s one-liners about the hot bartender — whom Harris’ womanizer Barney Stinson is on a no-suit quest to land — are wickedly funny, and very gay. A sample:

Lily: That bartender is the hottest bartender in the world.

Marshall: Meh.

Lily: Baby! How could you not want to hit that! I want to hit that! If you don’t want to hit that, I’m sorry, but you might be gay.

Marshall: Hell yeah I’m gay — gay for you!

Then later:

Lily: Come on Marshall, just admit that she’s hotter than me, I won’t be hurt.

Marshall: Can’t do it.

Lily: She’s a goddess. Her skin glows, her legs go for miles and that ass?! I would wear that thing for a hat! Last night in bed, I’ll admit it, she popped into my head a couple of times.

And in a great moment for the underused but always hilarious Cobie Smulders, Robin attempts to prove the bartender isn’t that attractive — “Her hotness isn’t even real, it’s circumstantial hotness” — when she makes her way behind the bar with the full windblown treatment to the tune of Warrant’s “Cherry Pie.”

In an episode that featured the cast — including Hannigan and Smulders suiting up — supporting Barney’s love of suits in a daydream musical number, Hannigan’s one-liners in the episode’s B story truly stole the show for lesbian fans. It isn’t often that Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s lesbian witch Willow Rosenberg resurfaces.

Considering the episode’s “Girls vs. Suits” title and how great Hannigan and Smulters looked suited up, why can’t we have both?
