The actress who plays Glee's resident high school guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) wishes that she and Kristin Chenoweth were both lesbians, she revealed in an interview with TVLine! In discussing the big 90 minute episode of Glee (airing Tuesday on Fox at 8/7 c), nothing was off limits - including her same-sex crushes on costars, her character's breakthrough regarding her OCD and the buzz around tonight's "Born This Way" episode.
As for her character, Mays said that while Emma isn't directly involved in the "Born This Way" musical number, she helps out with the costumes because its "definitely something she wants to be involved with." During the episode's first scene, Mays says, "Emma and Will are talking and she says something about 'being born this way,' so that spurs Will’s imagination to do this Gaga anthem. And then he asks her to join because he realizes that she may be able to benefit from this lesson as well."
In getting into details about character's relationships on the show, TVLine asked if there might be "some cute, jealous April/Emma moments when Kristin Chenoweth returns."
Mays reponded:
"First of all, I love this lady. I have such a crush on her. Even though she’s not and I’m not, I wish we were both lesbians. That’s what I wish. [Laughs] I kind of follow her around on set when she’s there… April and Emma don’t have any interaction, but I walk in on Will and April when they’re singing. Emma overhears April asking Will to hit the road with her, which is obviously a bit devastating for her. But Emma is the most positive, encouraging character that I know, so there’s a very big part of her that wants Will to go follow his dream of performing."
