The Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels has completed and filed her child adoption paperwork with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The tough trainer announced she ended her contract on the NBC weight-loss series in December of 2010, and told Women’s Health magazine about her desire to start a family. “I’m going to adopt,” she said in the interview. “I can’t handle doing that to my body. Also, when you rescue something, it’s like rescuing a part of yourself.”
"My dossier, which is your paperwork portfolio, is in to the Democratic Republic of the Congo," Michaels revealed to Us Weekly on Monday at the National Magazine Awards in NYC. "So the paperwork is done, and now it’s just a waiting game. It could be six months, twelve months; it could be two years. Or, it could be tomorrow! They call you and they say, 'Oh, we have your referral,' which is essentially the child they match you up with, and you go overseas and you get him or her."
In the meantime, Michaels is slated to be a special correspondent for Dr. Phil in addition to beginning her multi-year deal to join ER physician Dr. Travis Stork, OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Drew Ordon and pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears as the panel of experts on TV’s syndicated series The Doctors – and she “couldn’t be more excited.”
