LGBT-inclusive projects The Kids Are All Right, Burlesque and Glee, received multiple nominations, while the acclaimed I Love You Phillip Morris was shut out as the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced today by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The Fox hit Glee received five nominations including best television series (musical or comedy), and well as one for out actress Jane Lynch, for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, miniseries, or movie made for television, and one for Chris Colfer, for best performance by an actor in a supporting role in the same division.
Black Swan, the highly touted ballet thriller, which features a same-sex love scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, received four nominations, including best motion picture drama, and nods for both Portman and Kunis, in the leading and supporting actress in a drama categories, respectively.
ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family scored three nominations, including best television series (comedy or musical), and one for Eric Stonestreet as a gay father for best performance by actor a supporting role in a series, miniseries, or movie made for television.
The widely hailed lesbian family dramedy The Kids Are All Right garnered four nominations, including best motion picture (comedy or musical) and best screenplay. The film's stars, Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, have both been nominated as best actress in motion picture (comedy or musical).
Another gay fave, Burlesque, the Cher-headlined musical helmed by gay director Steven Antin, was a surprise hit with HFPA voters, receiving a nod for best motion picture (comedy or musical) and two for best original song for "Bound to You" and "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me."
Jim Carrey, a longtime favorite of HFPA voters, had been expected to receive a nomination for best performance by an actor in a motion picture (comedy or musical) for his much-admired turn as a gay con man in the long-delayed I Love You Phillip Morris but was overlooked.
