Lady Gaga and Eminem Top Contenders for MTV Video Music Awards Noms

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will have another intense battle this year: Lady Gaga nabbed the most nominations, with thirteen, and Eminem is not far behind with eight nominations. Both Gaga and Em are hoping to take home the Video of the Year Moonman on September 12, at 9:00 pm EST. The other videos up for Video of the Year are "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machine, "Kinds and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars, and "Airplanes" by B.o.B. featuring Hayley Williams. Up against Lady Gaga for Best Female Video are Katy Perry's "California Gurls," which features Snoop Dog, Ke$ha's "Tik Tok," and Taylor Swift's "Fifteen."

Gaga will surely rock the show, thanks to nominations in categories including Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and Best Dance Music Video for "Bad Romance." Not only does she take the cake for most noms, she is also the first female artist to ever be up for Video of the Year twice: once for "Bad Romance" and also for "Telephone," her collaboration with Beyonce.

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13," Lady Gaga said. "A long time ago, the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard. Together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"

Eminem's video for "Not Afraid" is one of the competitors for Video of the Year, as well as being nominated for Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video. Eminem's attitude about the nominations is slightly different than fan-loving Gaga: "Apparently, MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!" Eminem joked. "I mean, I'll be there, but don't expect me to be nice about it."

Lesbian look-alike Justin Bieber ("Baby") is up against Ke$ha ("Tik Tok"), Jason Derulo ("In My Head"), Nicki Minaj ("Massive Attack" collaboration with Sean Garrett), and Broken Bells ("The Ghost Inside") for Best New Artist.

Go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if you're a Verizon subscriber) to vote for your favorites in general categories, from Tuesday August 3 through September 12.
