The long running NBC police drama Law & Order will be airing their final show on May 24th. Sadly, the flagship of the Law & Order franchise will end its 20-year run during the spring sweeps.
NBC executives confirmed that they were cancelling the show on Friday. But don’t worry; diehard fans of the franchise will still be able to get their fill of gritty action by tuning into one of the three spin-offs, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and the latest addition to the Dick Wolf family, Law & Order: Los Angeles.
To honor the 20 years of excitement, suspense and drama that the show’s storylines brought to many lives, we’d like to highlight the list of hard fighting, justice seeking, kick ass women of Law & Order.
S. Epatha Merkerson -- Merkerson is the longest running cast member on the show, her first season was in 1993 when she joined on as Lt. Anita Van Buren. Over 390 episodes later, Merkerson’s role as Van Buren is the longest running African American character in a drama in TV history. She was also nominated for multiple awards for her performances including; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama three years in a row by the NAACP and an Image Award. Merkerson has also been nominated for a Tony Award.
Jill Hennessy -- One of the more well known cast members from Law & Order, Hennessy joined the cast as Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Claire Kincaid. She lasted 68 episodes from 1993-1996. Hennessy, a proven TV powerhouse, went on to star in her own primetime drama Crossing Jordan.
Angie Harmon -- Played the role of ADA Abbie Carmichael for 72 episodes on the series from 1998 to 2001. Harmon portrayed Carmichael as a staunch conservative, one who favors the death penalty and has little faith that criminals can be rehabilitated. Harmon has had a very successful career since departing the show, she has gone on to star in such hits as Fun with Dick and Jane, End Game and Women’s Murder Club.

Elisabeth Röhm -- Played ADA Serena Southerlyn from 2001-2005. Röhmmade headlines when she identified her character as a lesbian. Röhm character lasted for 85 episodes, during which time she was listed as one of Maxim magazine's "Hot 100.”
Milena Govich -- Played Det. Nina Cassady in 2006. Although she was only on the show for one season, Govich made her mark, by becoming the first woman to play one of the two lead detectives in the series.
Alana DeLa Garza -- De La Garza joined the cast in 2006 during its seventeenth season as ADA Connie Rubirosa. With 85 episodes under her belt, her portrayal of the witty ADA has garnered critical acclaim, making her one of the most memorable characters on the show. In addition to being a talented actress, she is also cashing in on her beauty. In 2008 she became the face of Garnier Nutritioniste cosmetics.
