The lovely and talented Lisa Kudrow is returning to the world of cable television with a comedy about a gay son in a family of born-again Christian parents. Now, there's an idea!
No, this is not a reality show, however, that would be something to set our Tivo's to. However, for those folks that have grown up gay or lesbian in a Christian home, this should be a very interesting walk down memory lane.
Variety reported Thursday that the pilot is being developed for Showtime. And although it is a comedy, this is no Friends series, but rather an altruistic peek inside the lives of a family with opposite views on religion, sex and life.
The Comeback
The television adaptation, tentatively titled Rapture, would be told from the perspective of 9-year-old Chester who's coming to terms with his sexual orientation.
The series is based on a memoir by indie film actor Craig Chester titled Why the Long Face?: The Adventures of a Truly Independent Actor, and will follow the life of the homosexual boy who has to deal with his religiously devout mother who has frequent visions of Christ and a rock 'n' roll dad who fears his wife is losing her mind.

The Opposite of Sex
Chester and comedy vets Paul Miller and Kimber Rickabaugh will also executive produce.
Fellow collaborator Don Roos, who will direct the series and who teamed with the duo for the upcoming NBC series Who Do You Think You Are that chronicles celebrities investigating their family trees, will join Kudrow and Bucatinsky. Kudrow, Susan Sarandon and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the thesps set to participate in that show.
