Remember those good ol’ days when the Music Television Network used to feature music videos? Yeah, me either. This generation is more familiar with MTV’s reality television programming involving the lives of teens and young adults with shows like Real World, 16 and Pregnant, Made and I Used to Be Fat.
For their next reality project, the executives at MTV have decided to shed some light on the LGBT community. The network will be providing a platform for vibrant and uncensored kids ages 14-21 who want to share their stories about being raised by gay parents.
They could be stories about how proud you are of your amazing gay parents, stories about being “in the closet” about being the child of a gay couple, the difficulties of being accepted with same sex parents, or stories about a your parent who unexpectedly came “out”.
In 2006, MTV broadcasted its True Life: I Have Gay Parents episode highlighting the lives of Hope, Aiden and Cooper. From Aiden trying to make drum line as a “pansexual” in a conservative community, to Cooper jumping through hoops to locate his biological father, America got a glimpse into the unknown. A warm-up, if you will. Five years later, the MTV Network execs are providing a second chance to kids who weren’t able to tell their stories the first time around.
