The 12th Annual Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (April 23- May 2) featured more than 80 films and shorts from 17 countries. The event kicked off with the award winning dark comedy I Killed My Mother, created by a then 19-year-old filmmaker Xavier Dolan. The event wrapped with La Mission, staring Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order) and directed by his brother Peter Bratt. The film is set in San Francisco and deals with homophobia in the Latino community. In between, festival audiences will see a variety of films, including documentaries, shorts and fiction features.

In addition to juried and audience awards, special presentations were made to Sharon Gless and Wolfe Releasing. Actress and LGBT advocate Gless (Burn Notice, Cagney & Lacey, Queer As Folk) received the 2010 Career Achievement Award. Her most recent Film Hannah Free was screened at the festival April 24. The film follows two women who grow up in the same Midwest town, where traditional gender expectations challenge their deep love for one another. Weaving between past and present, the story reveals how the women maintain their love affair despite a marriage, a world war, infidelity, and family denial.

The MGLFF Trailblazing Award was presented to Wolfe in honor of its 25th Anniversary. Kathy Wolfe founded the Wolfe in 1985 as a small mail order company that has since grown in to one of the largest LGBT film distributors. Wolfe accepted the award at the screening of Hannah Free, which the company is releasing.
