ormer Olympian and reality TV personality Caitlyn Jenner just became the first out transgender person to appear on the cover of the popular Sports Illustrated magazine.

On the cover, Caitlyn is dawning the gold medal she won over 40 years ago at the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics for the decathlon, an event that shot her to international fame.

In the accompanying cover story, Caitlyn recalls how she felt when she won gold so many years ago, and how her life has been this past year since her public coming out in July 2015. A coming out that made her one of the most visible trans women in the world.

"I loved Bruce. I still love him today," she tells SI. "I like what he did and the way he set an example for hard work and dedication. I'm proud of that part of my life. But this woman was living inside me, all my life, and it reached the point where I had to let her live and put Bruce inside. And I am happier, these last 12 months, than I've ever been in my life."
