The comic returns with what may be their most personal performance yet.

Hannah Gadsby is one of those comics who, when they get out on stage, you know something beautiful, poignant, and hilarious is about to occur in front of your eyes.

Ever since their paradigm-shifting special Nanette in 2018, they’ve become one comic you never want to miss. This is ironic as the special was initially meant to be their swan song, a final performance before bidding the stand-up stage adieu. But thankfully the special instead rocketed the Australian comic’s career to another level and we were treated to their second Netflix special, Douglas, in 2020, another deeply personal and profound performance.

Now Gadbsy is back again, and the Peabody Award-winning comedian is ready to treat audiences to their third special, this time titled, appropriately, Something Special. According to Netflix’s official synopsis, “Hannah Gadsby is back for their third Netflix comedy special, Hannah Gadsby: Something Special. In this smart and feel-good set, the comedian talks about a wedding (theirs!), more than one traumatic encounter with a bunny, and much more.”

Something Special was filmed at the Sydney Opera House in the Fall of 2022, which is the same location as where their comedy sensation Nanette was filmed previously. How long will audiences have to wait to see Something Special? Thankfully not too long. The very special, special is set to premiere on the streaming service May 9.
