It looks like Matt Healy wins the "IDGAF Award."
It's ironic that The 1975 was performing at the Good Vibes Festival in Malaysia, as the vibes were certainly not good once Matt Healy kissed his bandmate Ross MacDonald on stage. TBH, it was more like a makeout session.
This wasn't the first time Healy has gone viral for making out with guys at his concerts.
Homosexuality is punishable by up to 20 years in prison in Malaysia, so the band's set was cut short after the stunt. While on stage, Healy also challenged the country's laws making same-sex activity illegal.
“I made a mistake. When we were booking shows, I wasn’t looking into it. I don’t see the f***ing point, right? I do not see the point of inviting The 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with,” he said.
“I’m sorry if that offends you, and your religious, and it’s part of your f***ing government…” he continued. “If you push, I’m gonna push back. I’m not in the f***ing mood.”
“It’s ridiculous, f***ing ridiculous, to tell people what they can do with that and that,” he added. “If you want to invite me here to do a show, you can f**k off. I’ll take your money. You can ban me, but I’ve done this before, and it doesn’t feel good.”
The 1975 is now banned from Malaysia and their upcoming performances in Jakarta and Taipei are officially canceled.
