A Subway Hero Stood Up to Bigots for This NYC Drag Queen
Faith in humanity restored.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have an ally in the crowd when being harrassed for being queer. Gusty Winds, an NYC drag performer who's been on the scene for 21 years, is one of the lucky few.
"Well for the first time in my drag life of 21 years I got harassed on the subway [when] some ignorant man and his girlfriend started talking loudly and rudely about me," she posted on Facebook yesterday morning.

Gusty wasn't having it, and apparently nobody else was either. She responded with a tactful and classy reproach.
"Half the train was shooting them eye daggers so I popped my head up and said 'I can hear you and it's rude and you're rude, but I will not engage your stupidity, I just hope one day when you're the odd person someone doesn't treat you like you just treated me.'"
Apparently, the moral of the retort having swiftly entered one ear and exited the other, the woman on the subway train began taking photos of Gusty.
Then a man stepped in. Literally.
Blocking the gawking woman from taking any more shots of or at Gusty, the man said to her, "Keep doing what your doing. You're beautiful."
Blow on, Gusty Winds, and thank you for your service to the community! Read the full post here, and show your support by following Gusty on Instagram.
