California Supreme Court Upholds Prop 8

The California Supreme Court has announced their decision to uphold Prop 8 with a 6-1 vote. The decision was announced Tuesday morning at 10 am. Prop 8 was the ballot measure voted California voters passed last November banning same-sex marriage in the state. The ban came after same-sex marriages were allowed beginning in June 2008.

The California Supreme Court has announced their decision to uphold Prop 8, with a 6-1 vote. The 18,000 marriages that took place during the few months same-sex marriages were legal are still valid and will continue to be recognized. The decision was announced Tuesday morning at 10:00 am. Prop 8 was the ballot measure voted California voters passed last November banning same-sex marriage in the state. The ban came after same-sex marriages were allowed beginning in June 2008.

After hearing oral arguments for the case on March 5th, the court had 90 days to announce the ruling regarding Prop 8, as well as the legal standing of the 18,000 marriages that took place throughout the state from June to November of last year.
