Here are some stunning facts from CRUSH, an organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people who want to help our community members live longer and healthier by encouraging them to live smoke free:
•The American Cancer Society estimates that over 30,000 LGBT people in the US die each year of tobacco-related diseases. In comparison, around 18,000 people in the US die each year from AIDS-related complications.
•LGBT people are up to 200% more likely to smoke than straight people.
•It is not just adults. 45% of female youth and 35% of male youth who report same-sex interest and behavior smoked, compared to only 29% of other youth.
CRUSH's goal is to educate LGBT youth while creating a positive and desirable image for living smoke free. How?
By throwing a party, of course.
This Friday, CRUSH presents Vicious, an 18+ LGBT dance party in Las Vegas. They're calling it the "Anything But Clothes" party—which inspires images of cute skater girls dancing next to flamboyant gay boys wearing next to nothing. So if that’s your scene it sounds pretty fun, and either way it all goes to a good cause.
Kaci Battaglia will be there performing her hits "Body Shots" and "Crazy Possessive," The Flirt Show serve up a sweet dance performance, and sexy superstar DJ Lisa Pittman is spinning.
