We heard about this great new lesbian art novella, Drawing Love by Juli Jousan, and thought we would share a synopsis and short excerpt with our readers!
Mo is eighteen years old. She got through high school! Now she is spending the summer in Amsterdam taking an art class, before she heads off to college in the fall. She plays her guitar on the sidewalks for tourists and meets other musicians and artists. Her favorite is a woman named Elka, a sax player who lives in a world of travelers that Mo has never imagined. Carrying her past in a journal, Mo explores her first experience of love, as she moves into her future.
From Drawing Love, by Juli Jousan:
"That night everything in my room felt rounded and soft. Samantha and I were alone. She moved over and put her arm around my shoulder; it felt like warm bird feathers. Then she changed everything forever. She kissed me.
Love does not stop at the corner. Love does not stop for red lights. It does not stop for innocence, because it is innocence. It's pure. It forgets ages. It forgets color and money, and sometimes it even forgets to be a woman and a man."
Juli Jousan is the author of two other novellas and several children's stories. She has spent the last decade working with troubled teens. She has led extended trips in the wilderness and travelled throught the world. She hopes that her books will turn the readers inner pages and help people to be free enough to be themselves.
Thanks so much for helping the book come out into the world.
