Global icon Jennifer Lopez is in the thick of promoting her new film Shotgun Wedding alongside Josh Duhamel and in a new press interview, she revealed that she was actually going to appear alongside Madonna and Britney Spears in the iconic MTV moment.

The event in question, of course, was the 2003 VMAs where Madonna locked lips with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera after performing a medley of "Like a Virgin," "Hollywood" and "Work It" with Missy Elliott. It was a culture-shifting moment, but now Lopez reveals it almost looked a bit different.

“I was filming a movie in Canada, and we had met – me, her and Britney — to do it at her home," Lopez explained to E! News. But after that rehearsal, she says the timing just didn't work out. "I just couldn’t get off the film. So, we couldn’t do it.”

Lopez continued, “They got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it, and I didn’t wind up doing it.” But at the end of the day, she'll always have adoration for the Queen of Pop. “I love Madonna. I’m a huge fan. I always have been.”

Many fans forget Aguilera was involved in the moment because after Madonna and Spears kissed, the camera cut away to the latter's ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. “It was weird,” Aguilera told Andy Cohen in a 2018 SiriusXM radio interview. “They cut away to get Justin’s reaction. It was a cheap shot.”

Aguilera didn’t even realize her kiss was largely missed until the next morning. “I saw the newspaper the next day and I was like, ‘Oh, well, I guess I got left out of that one.'”
