The inclusive thriller has gone viral for all the right reasons.

if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first? That's the question in the upcoming comedy/horror flick, The Blackening.

The film centers around "a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer," the official description reads. "Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game."

Saturday Night Live star Jay Pharoah and Insecure's Yvonne Orji star in the film alongside Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, and one of writers of the film, Dewayne Perkins.

Three years ago after the original sketch went viral on Twitter, Perkins was still working on the script and expressed his excitement on the future of the sketch in an interview to PRIDE. "We all love being Black. But now that the stakes are what it is, who's the first one that uses whiteness to live?" he posed at the time. "That was just like a very funny premise that opened up a lot of commentary on race and sexuality and just identity politics in general."

Now, his labor has come to fruition.

His character in the film is gay and attempts to leverage his sexuality to ensure his survival. It's both a hilarious and provocative concept. "I didn't want a bunch of Black people to be like, 'Let's talk about who's going to die because they're Blackest.' I wanted them to talk about who wants to live because they're the whitest. And talk about whiteness as the juxtaposition to Blackness versus Black people be like, white people be like. We do things that are categorized as whiteness because it seems as if it's so far to Blackness but really Black people can do all kinds of stuff."

We can't wait to see how all of these concepts play out in the film...

The Blackening premieres June 16, 2023. Watch the trailer below:
