It's not the Sex and the City reunion fans hoped for, but it's something.

She's back!

After nearly two seasons without Samantha Jones, Kim Cattrall finally returned to And Just Like That…! Well, for a brief cameo in the finale, anyway.

As expected, Cattrall didn’t actually appear on screen with any of her former costars. Instead, she made her Sex and the City spin-off debut in a scene in which she calls Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) from her car to let her know she had planned a surprise visit to say goodbye to Carrie’s old apartment with the rest of the trio, but was going to miss her flight.

“Thank you for everything you f*cking fabulous, fabulous flat,” she tells the apartment over the phone.

Fans of the original series weren’t surprised when Cattrall didn’t join the revival. There had reportedly been tensions among the cast members over the course of making the movies in the years between the series, and Cattrall publicly expressed disinterest in the creative direction the third film would have taken.

“The series is basically the third movie,” she told Variety last year, adding that her frustrations revolved around feeling that there wasn’t an event to warrant a third Sex and the City film.

“Everything has to grow, or it does. I felt that when the series ended, I thought that’s smart. We’re not repeating ourselves. And then the movie to end all the loose ends,” Cattrall continued. “Everything in me went, ‘I’m done.’”

And Just Like That… explained away Samantha’s disappearance from the foursome by saying she moved to London after she and Carrie drifted apart. The first season alluded to everyone reconnecting slowly—off-screen and via text, of course—so Cattrall’s brief appearance in the finale wasn’t out of nowhere, narratively speaking.

“We just thought it was a really nice idea to put a face to the text, really in a large part to celebrate the 25 years of [Sex and the City],” Parker previously told ET. “I was really pleased.”
