Brandi Carlile and Catherine Shepherd are Married Ladies

The iconic lesbian singer-songwriter tied the knot this weekend in Boston.

Over the weekend, lesbian songstress Brandi Carlile (pictured left) made an honest woman out of her partner, when the two legally wed in Boston on Saturday, September 15.

The couple are planning two more ceremonies — one in Carlile's hometown of Seattle later this month, and one in her wife Catherine Shepherd's (pictured right) hometown of London next year.

"It was a crazy feeling when I was filling out the paperwork because I felt like I was breaking a law," Carlile told The Washington Post, "like somebody was going to come in and say, 'You know you can't have this.' It was so exciting. And [Shepherd's] mom and dad were there and it was just really special. So we have a marriage license in Massachusetts."

Sorry to say, ladies, but Carlile is officially spoken for. She hopes that by being an out, married celebrity, Carlile can inspire young queer women to hold out hope for their own happily-ever-after.

"I wouldn't have been able to picture myself married or successful or pursuing my dreams if there hadn't been other people that had done it before me," Carlile told the Post. "If a 14- or 15-year-old girl reads this in a small town who's gay, then she knows that someday she might go get a marriage license and get married, and there's no reason she should stop dreaming about a white wedding because I didn't."

Read more from the Post's lengthy article on Carlile, where the author speculates that by getting hitched, Carlile has officially entered the current socio-political fracas over marriage equality, here.
