Can Miley Cyrus Outdo These 7 Past VMA Hosts?
After making headlines for twerking up a storm during a Video Music Awards performance of “We Can’t Stop” back in 2013, Miley Cyrus is taking the MTV stage again this year — but this time, she’s playing host.
\u201cFuck yeah VMAs!!!!! #VMAs on @MTV Aug 30 at 9pm\u201d— Miley Cyrus (@Miley Cyrus) 1437432869
That’s right, the bisexual singer is set to host this year’s VMAs, which is usually always one completely huge and fabulous pop culture extravaganza. While we’re excited to see just what kind of tricks Miley has up her sleeve, we can’t help but wonder how she will fare compared to other hosts of years past, especially considering there have been plenty of years when the VMAs didn’t have a host at all.
Here’s our definitive ranking of the best, and most outrageous, MTV VMA hosts ever.
7. Arsenio Hall (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991)
No list of great VMA hosts would be complete with TV legend Arsenio Hall. Even though the height of his popularity was a little before our time, he hosted the night to celebrate pop music for four years in a row. More than anyone ever.
6. Diddy (2005)
Diddy took his hosting gig seriously at the VMA ceremony ten years ago. From his Godly all white ensemble to his extravagant entrance on stage, did you really expect anything else?
5. Jack Black (2006)
Fresh off the success of his comedy film "Nacho Libre," Jack Black hosted the VMAs back in ’06 and from what we remember back then (was that really nine years ago already!?), we couldn’t stop laughing the whole time.
4. Russell Brand (2008, 2009)
The British actor (and Katy Perry’s ex-beau) hosting the VMAs was so nice, he did it twice! Plus, he hosted the year following Godney Spears’ infamous “Gimme More” performance, so for that he gets extra points.
3. Chris Rock (1997, 1999, 2003)
The problem with a lot of awards shows is that the hosts can be really lame and unfunny. That wasn’t the case, though, when comedy icon Chris Rock hosted the 20th annual VMAs in 2003. He literally started off the night with a short stand-up set.

2. Chelsea Handler (2010)
Unfortunately, not many women have hosted the VMAs, but when Chelsea Handler took the job for the 2010 ceremony, she used her trademark brand of snarky humor to make for a memorable night. That skit she did with Bieber where she said he was wearing a wig? ICONIC.
1. Kevin Hart (2012)
Kevin Hart has been on fire with his comedy career in the past couple of years, and when he hosted the VMAs back in 2012, he proved that he has the staying power of a true funny-man.
