Ellen DeGeneres and Liz Feldman Producing Sitcom with Lesbian Lead

This is a great pairing!

NBC and Ellen DeGeneres are in the works to produce a broadcast comedy with a lesbian lead, almost two decades after Ellen herself made headway as a lesbian lead on ABC. The half-hour sitcom to be written and executive produced by openly lesbian writer/comedian Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls), will center on a lesbian and her straight, male best friend with whom she decides to get pregnant and raise a baby, and just as he meets the love of his life.

The news, confirmed today on Feldman’s twitter, comes soon after NBC decided to cancel shows containing gay characters such as The New Normal and Smash. DeGeneres’ studio-based A Very Good Production is developing the show with Feldman (pictured), who has previously written for DeGeneres' talk show.

A Very Good Production is also currently producing the lesbian-penned period piece Players, as well as taking Lauren Graham's novel Someday, Someday, Maybe to series.
