Lesbian folk music duo The Lovebirds were named as one of six winners at the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters.
The duo was chosen as winners out of 32 bands, duos and solo artists. The duo will receive cash honorariums as well as the chance to perform in the New Folk Concerts Fall Tour, according to AcousticMusicScene.
The San Diego-based duo released their first full-length album Nutsy Pants in April 2012 and has shared the stage with famous musicians including Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin. According to San Diego Reader, the duo ended a three-year romantic relationship in early 2013 to maintain a strong musical relationship.
The duo also released Breakup Shmakeup: The Lovebirds Documentary as the same time as the release of their latest album. The documentary explores the end of their romantic relationship, battling mental illness and more.
