Naomi Campbell Stars in Trans Artist ANOHNI's Intense New Music Video
Transgender singer ANOHNI's album HOPELESSNESS is coming out soon, and the recently released video for the single "Drone Bomb Me" is an exciting look into what's to come.
This is her first album under the name ANOHNI, as she was formerly known as Antony and played with a group called Antony and the Johnsons. In America, ANOHNI made her way into headlines recently not only for being the first transgender performer nominated for an Oscar for her song "Manta Ray," but also for her decision not to attend the Oscars after not being asked to perform. This detailed essay explains the intense reasons behind her boycott, which range from which artists were chosen to perform instead to America's sugarcoating of a dangerous political agenda.
We too feel like the Academy denied the audience a chance to see something special with ANOHNI's performance, especially now that we're getting to see more of her work. "Drone Bomb Me," which was released today, stars iconic supermodel Naomi Cambell and, according to an interview with Annie Mac, follows the perspective of a young girl whose family has been killed by drone bombs. It's a dark but powerful premise and the video pulses with emotion. Watch it here:
HOPELESSNESS will be available via Secretly Canadian on May 6th.
