We all have those songs that are forever ingrained in our coming-of-age stories. Songs that gave us hope, played during our first kiss, helped us feel fierce, or simply helped us understand ourselves a little bit better. This is oftentimes particularly true for LGBTQ artists.
Throughout the month of June, and only on PRIDE, LGBTQ+ artists are curating and sharing playlists that reflect their formative years—their Soundtracks of Pride.
D.W. Waterson is a Canadian drummer and DJ who recently made a cameo in Idris Elba's Netflix series Turn Up Charlie.
"All these songs really transport me back to a specific summer feeling; an iconic moment in a film or laying in my bed dreaming of what life was like outside my small town. Whether I was dancing with my walkman, heading off the bus or blasting these songs in my bedroom swooning, all these tracks definitely had an impact on my coming-of-age years. I mean, the Baywatch theme song and Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack…need I say more?"
