Bestselling Author Partricia Cornwell Sues Over $40 Million

Crime novelist and Patricia Cornwell is suing mad at her accountants and business advisers for losing $40 million of not just hers, but also, her wife Staci Gruber's money. Quite possibly the world's most successful lesbian author, Cornwell is famous for penning the Kay Scarpetta series.

Crime novelist and Patricia Cornwell is suing mad at her accountants and business advisers for losing $40 million of not just hers, but also, her wife Staci Gruber's money, according to The Daily Beast.

The author of the acclaimed Kay Scarpetta series is suing Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP, a New York financial-management firm-mismanaged her money to the tune of $40 million in losses.

Her complaint, filed in Boston federal court - in her homestate of Massachusetts where she legally wed Gruber two years ago -- specifically names Anchin and executives Ira Yohalem and Evan Snapper, according to the Beast.

"Patricia has found this process to be very distracting and upsetting, but I think she has some level of comfort knowing that the lawsuit has been filed and is now in the hands of the court," Cornwell's attorney, Joan Lukey, told the Beast.  She added in regard to Cornwell and Gruber, "I think this has been a very difficult time for both of them."

Accusations Cornwell made against her advisers -specifically Snapper-- include mishandling rental properties, construction jobs, tax returns and writing a check for $5,000 as a bat mitzvah gift for his daughter, whom Cornwell never met.

Cornwell is about to kick off a book tour The Scarpetta Factor, her 17th novel in the Scarpetta series. Her bestselling novels have also caught the attention of Angelina Jolie, who is slated to star in an adaptation of one of her books.

The author spoke to The Advocate in 2008, crediting Billie Jean King with helping her come to terms with coming out. She said in the interview that turning 50 had helped her to see the importance of speaking out for equal rights.
