Christina Aguilera is signed on to become the next singer-actress crossover star. The four-time Grammy Award-winner is set to star in Burlesque, a musical directed by Steve Antin described to be "a contemporary take on the traditional burlesque that derived from vaudeville, with singing, dancing, comedy and more tease than striptease.”

According to Variety, the songstress will be playing an ambitious smalltown girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club that appears to be right out of Bob Fosse's "Cabaret."

Though Aguilera lent her voice for the animated film Shark Tale, she has never starred in a film.

"I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind," Screen Gems President Clint Culpepper said of the actress taking on the role.
