Grey's Anatomy's Melissa George Scrubs Out and Quits

Golden Globe nominee for HBO's In Treatment and Grey's Anatomy's hot new intern Melissa George is taking the first gurney out of Seattle Grace and quitting the former juggernaut of a primetime medical show.

Golden Globe nominee for HBO's In Treatment and Grey's Anatomy's hot new intern Melissa George is taking the first gurney out of Seattle Grace and quitting the former juggernaut of a primetime medical show.

"It was my choice," George announced to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello at a Golden Globes after party. "My last day of work is Tuesday."

George  joined the show in November on the heels of  producers firing Brooke Smith, who played Erica Hahn, Sara Ramirez's character Callie Torres's lesbian love interest. But unlike Smith's expeditious and somewhat mysterious departure, George said she loves the show and she's leaving with everything on the up and up.

"I love the show so much," George told Ausiello. "I've made some beautiful friends. I love T.R. Knight. I love Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers... I adore Ellen Pompeo. I think she's a strong, incredible woman. And Katherine Heigl is the most beautiful creature on Earth."

George said she was leaving because she is ready to do "something else."
