Meghan McCain spoke to the Log Cabin Republicans Saturday night at Washington, D.C.'s Westin Hotel at their annual convention, telling the gay group of her many gay friends, and that old-guard Republicans are "scared shitless" of the future.
The speech felt a little rebellious, which was a little expected from the 24-year-old daughter of Sen. John McCain. However, she did not specifically emphasize support for same-sex marriage, which she endorsed earlier in a blog on The Daily Beast website.
To make the event more notable, she was not the first high-profile Republican, but the second, speaking at Log Cabin over the weekend. McCain's chief campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt, gave a 20-minute speech on Friday to lay out intellectual and moral rationale for support of full marriage equality.
Meghan McCain outlined three things she learned during the campaign and since:
1. Most of our nation wants our nation to succeed;
2. Most people are ready to move on to the future, not live in the past; and
3. Most of the old-school Republicans are scared shitless of that future.
