Billboard just announced their newest cover star for their latest issue, and it's none other than former One Direction crooner and eternal heartthrob Zayn Malik.

While Z's cover and images from his in-depth interview with the popular music magazine may be glorious in their own right, there was one particular quote from the story that really, really, really hit us hard in the feels.

When asked about the aftermath of his untimely split from the boy band that made him famous, and where he stood in terms of frienship with the rest of the remaining bandmates Harry, Liam, Niall, and Louis, Mr. Malik had this to say:

“The truth of it is, you can think one thing about a situation and the total opposite can happen. I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people. I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it’s stuff you overcome in time.”

Could this be?!? Could Zayn really have been left out of the circle by his former bandmates and one-time best friends? Sadly, it seems to be so. So much for "four friends for life."

Still holding out hope for a reunion in a few years though...
