Resist Trump With Ben & Jerry’s Latest Protest Ice Cream Flavor

“Pecan Resist” is here, and proceeds help benefit four socially conscious organizations.

Ben & Jerry’s continues to be the wokest ice cream in the game, announcing this week the creation of a new flavor, Pecan Resist. According to their website, the flavor is intended to help "peacefully resist the Trump administration's regressive and discriminatory policies."

With Pecan Resist — which is made with chocolate ice cream, white and dark fudge chunks, walnuts, pecans, and fudge-covered almonds — Ben & Jerry’s has pledged to support four socially conscious organizations: Color of ChangeHonor the EarthNeta, and Women's March. The ice cream company will donate $25,000 to each of the organizations, all of whom are fighting against the Trump administration.

For the carton’s design, Ben & Jerry’s commissioned political artist Favianna Rodriguez to create original artwork. "As an artist, I know well the power of culture and I recognize when a business is using its platform to push for love, justice and a green planet," Rodriguez said, according to a statement. "Let's declare our resistance, march in the streets, and elect a new generation of change makers."

This isn’t the first time Ben & Jerry’s has used ice cream to promote activism: in 2009 they renamed Chubby Hubby as Hubby Hubby in support of same sex marriage. The company also temporarily rebranded their Chocolate Fudge Brownie flavor as Food Fight Fudge Brownie to champion GMO labeling, and created EmpowerMint in 2016 to promote voter’s rights.

By creating Pecan Resist and supporting these vital organizations, Ben & Jerry’s hopes to "build a future that values inclusivity, equality, and justice for people of color, women, the LGBTQ community, refugees, and immigrants."

"We couldn't be prouder or more excited to support these four organizations that are doing incredible work every day," said Ben & Jerry's CEO Matthew McCarthy. "Our goal is to use our company's voice, our ice cream, and our activism to encourage all Americans to support and help build these movements which counter the current regressive agenda. We think it's more important now than ever that citizens and businesses alike stand up and be counted."

In Trump’s America, we need corporations to use their power — and their money — to support social causes. But it’s important to remember, as we approach our country’s ultimate consumerist holiday, that the best way to fight our current political climate isn’t by buying ice cream: it’s voting for politicians who advance equality, showing up at protests and donating directly to causes that matter.
