Seimone Augustus Talks Same-Sex Marriage on ESPN's 'Outside the Lines'

ESPN has released a preview clip from an episode of Outside the Lines featuring openly gay WNBA star Seimone Augustus talking about same-sex marriage.

Augustus is a former LSU basketball player, a guard for the Minnesota Lynx and a two-time Olympian currently playing for Team USA in London.

She says in the interview she had no concerns about how coming out could affect her WNBA career.

“I didn't even think about it because I was on such a high note as far as being happy with who I am, it really didn't matter what anybody else thought,” she says.

In the interview, she’ll talk about her plan to marry her partner LaTaya Varner in Minneapolis next spring – that is, unless Minnesota passes an amendment limiting marriages to unions between opposite-sex couples. She’ll discuss how she believes people in some parts of the country still have trouble accepting same-sex relationships.

"I'm 28 years old and I still have yet to see a gay or lesbian couple walk down the street and be openly gay in the South, at least where I'm from," Augustus says. "We're still getting over black and white issues down South so to think that they're ready to accept open gay and lesbian people would be a bit of stretch.”

Watch the preview clip from ESPN here. The episode airs Wednesday at 2:00 pm on ESPN.
