Tom Daley Just Won Another Olympic Medal, Says He's Not Retiring Yet

He is now the first British diver to win four times at the Olympics.

Bring on the margaritas!

Tom Daley took a break from his knitting to snag yet another Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 games this weekend. After scoring the gold for the 10 meter platform synchronized diving competition, the longtime athlete brought home a bronze in the individual event. The news is historic as Daley is now the first diver representing Great Britain to win four Olympic medals.

"I am so happy that this Olympics has gone the way it has," Daley said after the win. "I feel like a different athlete, I feel like I've been so many different things over the years.

"At the end of May, I didn't even know if I was going to make it to these games," he continued. "I tore my meniscus and had knee surgery. I always dreamed I'd be fit enough to come back and dive at these Olympics. If someone had told me I was going to win a gold and a bronze, I probably would have laughed in their face."

Daley has continued to be a media darling during the games. After his gold medal win, fans were delighted to watch him knitting and crocheting on the sidelines while watching the other competitors. In fact, he was knitting directly before his dive. The medal was Great Britain's 60th medal at the games.

"The r-word isn't coming out to play yet," he also said, referring to retirement. "I'm going to take a break, I'm going to take at least six months just to kind of give myself a bit of a rest — I've been doing it for 20 years now. I know there's only three years until Paris, and there might be a might a few mixed synchro and mixed-gender events put in. So, who knows you might see me in Paris!"

And as for what's the most immediate next step? "A couple of margaritas!" he said.

Back home his husband and son were cheering him along. Husband Dustin Lance Black uploaded a video of their son Robbie watching the competition chanting "Go papa, go!"

"Are you kidding me?!" Black wrote to Twitter later after the win. "Another Olympic medal! Two for two! So so so proud of you my love! Now bring those medals home my sweet champion."
