MTV’s Faking It has been at the forefront of diversity since it first aired in 2014, even if its premise of two best friends pretending to be lesbians in order to be popular at their super-progressive Austin high school did seem questionable at first. But since the pilot, in which besties Amy and Karma kissed, and Amy began her journey of realizing she was indeed in love with her best friend, Faking It has became a legitimately cutting-edge comedy (with a lot of heart) and with loads of diversity. And for the upcoming season, Elliot Fletcher joins the cast as the show’s first transgender character.

Fletcher responded to MTV’s nationwide casting call for trans actors and actresses, and landed the part of Noah, “… a transgender character who is charismatic, confident and hip and is equal parts charming and vulnerable. He's is the boy next door with a leather jacket and a rock 'n' roll attitude who plays guitar or bass for a band that competes in a battle of the bands contest,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fletcher’s Noah joins a cast of characters that includes regulars like Rita Volk’s Amy (who, after falling in love with her best friend, begins to explore her identity), Michael Willett’s out-and-proud Shane, and Bailey De Young’s Lauren, who is television’s first intersex character. Faking It, which takes place primarily at the ultra-progressive Hester High, also features several recurring queer characters.

A premiere date for Faking It season 3 has not been announced, but we’re really excited for Fletcher to join the gang.
