Season six of HBO's unparalleled hit, Game of Thrones, has had a definite theme: Badass women. Everywhere you look there is a powerful, determined woman demanding what hers and we cannot get enough.
One of the real stand-outs has been Yara Greyjoy. Previously easily-forgotten, Yara has been capturing more screentime recently and is on her way to becoming a fan favorite through her wit and skill, her relationship with brother Theon, and her general badassery. She's also one of just a few remaining queer characters, a fact that was revealed a couple of episodes ago.
But one of the highlights of the season came just this last Sunday in the penultimate episode of the season "Battle of the Bastards." In the episode, Yara comes into contact with longtime fan fave — easily one of the most fierce and unstoppable characters on the show — the "Mother of Dragons" herself, Daenerys Targaryen.
During the negotiations between the two women, fans might have noticed a little, um, "tension" between the ladies. It wasn't subtle.
When Dany asked whether Yara's allegiance came with a demand for marriage as her uncle's did, Yara responds "I'd never demand, but I'm up for anything, really." Smooth.
And if anyone was wondering whether or not the flirtation was real or imagined, Emilia Clarke, the actress who brings Dany to life onscreen, assures us it's very real. In a video on the Game of Thrones YouTube channel, Clarke discussed the scene, saying:
"There's mild flirtation, which is exciting, to say the least. I mean, get rid of Daario, bring on the ladies. Why not?"
Why not, indeed? We know what relationship we're shipping in season seven.
