The CW has ordered a pilot featuring a gender non-conforming lead!

Glamorous, developed by writer Jordon Nardino and executive producer Damon Wayans Jr., is described as a show where “a gender non-conforming recent high school graduate lands the gig of a lifetime interning at a cosmetics company whose products he panned on YouTube.”

While the main character does, at present, identify as male, reportedly there is also a non-binary character among the main cast as well.

It’s just a pilot order for now, so it’s up in the air whether the show will receive a full season commitment, but if it does, it will likely be the first American scripted show to feature a gender non-conforming lead.

The CW has recently also made history by ordering Batwoman to series, which will be the first superhero show to star a lesbian superhero, as well as introducing the character or Nia Nal on Supergirl, who is the first transgender superhero on screen.

The network has long been ahead of the curve in terms of LGBTQ representation, though its often also criticized for allowing its LGBTQ characters to be killed off in unceremonious ways.

Hopefully, bringing LGBTQ characters to its non-superhero/dystopian shows will increase their chances of survival… assuming the pilots see the light of day.
